Oh my! Athens was amazing! People on scooters everwhere - weaving in and out of traffic, cruising down very small streets - only slowing down enough to let you jump out of their way! Seriously. We took a tour into Athens today. The tour was in French, but there was supposed to be an English enterpreter. Unfortunately for us, there was a little girl on the tour who started throwing up about 10 min. into the drive. The English guide had to go with the girl and her mother to the hospital which left us on a tour of Athens - IN FRENCH.
It is amazing how many people here are French. Steve claims he hasn't heard very many other languages around the hotel, but I don't think that he knows very many other languages to distinguish them and so he might just be trying to be a Know-it-All.
Anyway, back to Athens. We saw all these amazing ruins and were even able to listen in a few English speaking guides to get some of the history as we explored the Acropolis. After the "tour" we had lunch in the beautiful little cafe with some people from Austria (see Steve - German). They spoke enough French to understand the guide and enough English to inform us when and where to meet the group for the ride back to the hotel. That was enough info - and Steve and I were off to explore on our own. We explored, watched, shopped and shopped. Steve kept complaining that he is not good at "Slow Walking" and kept complaining that he needed a break for his legs and an ice tea for his belly because it was so hot. I felt hot, but there was just so much to see and so much to buy. There was no time for pointless breaks!! :)
