Adventure Update: May Adventure!

As promised, here come the adventures!

May Adventure.  This one may go down as my favorite adventure in 2013.  We were in need of an adventure and Jen said she would take it upon herself to plan the trip.  After she declared she would plan it, I got an amazing email detailing the plans for the adventure.  The subject line said: “I say we visit Olympia!” The email said, and I quote:

“Leave Saturday early afternoon or so….

Head down to Olympia.

Or head over to the flight museum. http://www.olympicflightmuseum.com/index.php (open till 5:00)

Check into our hotel.

Go black light mini golfing.  http://www.shankzglowgolf.com/index.html

Sleep.

Wake up.

Go to the capital and walk around, maybe even participate in an hour tour.

Then if time permits we can go to point priest park. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/priest-point-park-olympia?select=Jou45874TdnjjXFVsIVOZA#Jou45874TdnjjXFVsIVOZA

We have never familiarized ourselves with our state capital after all. “

True.  Very True.  We had NEVER familiarized ourselves with our state capital!  This was exactly the kind of adventure we had been searching for, and it came with an itinerary!  I was definitely in!

The flight museum was so fun!  It was not what we had expected, although I have no idea what I was expecting.  It had one big hanger room with lots of old planes.  There were old war planes, old helicopters, lots of useful facts about planes and random plane parts lying around.

After perusing the planes for a while we headed outside.  To our surprise we found an old plane and an old helicopter that the kids could climb in/on/around.  The levers worked and  the doors opened and closed.  Needless to say, Evan LOVED them!  While we were outside we were also very lucky to witness a life flight helicopter land right by us.  As the helicopter got closer, the wind picked up and, just like the movies, we had to hold on to our hats and kids to stop everything from blowing away!

After the flight museum, we drove around Olympia.  The itinerary had suggested we go black light mini golfing, but after driving around and searching for the mini-golf location, we decided it might be a better idea to just eat dinner and go to a local arcade before retiring to the hotel for swimming.  We mutually decided on a pizza place and then spent about $5 dollars on pinball.  The day was winding down and we headed to our hotel to prepare ourselves for the tour of the capital scheduled for the next day.

We woke up the next day and headed over to the Capital building.  There were limited tours scheduled for Sunday and, although he wouldn’t admit it, Greg was really looking forward to the historical tour.  We were, of course, running late to catch the last tour of the day so we were forced to drop the boys off with Owen to run in while Jen and I took the little kids and babies to find a parking place.  After parking, we took our time exploring the Capital grounds and took some of my favorite pictures of Evan and Ivy to date!

Time didn’t end up permitting us to go to the park (as suggested by Jen’s email), but we were able to familiarize ourselves with our State capital, participate in the requisite tour, learn some history, see some cool planes, swim in freezing cold water at the hotel, see a real helicopter – close up!, and check another fabulous adventure off our list!
