East Coast Extravaganza!

Steve and I just got back from our East Coast trip with his parents. I had been gone for 1 1/2 weeks and Steve had been gone for 3 weeks (he had been out there for a week and 1/2 before I got there for some work stuff). We had a wonderful trip. Here is the recap...

We started off in Rhode Island. It was beautiful! I think this might have been the best part of the trip. The weather was awesome. We saw mansions, parks, Dells Lemonade, an anarchist festival, a walk in the rain, ate wonderful pizza, did a cliff walk, and hung out with some of Steve's family. Rhode Island was very quaint and very amazing. A wonderful place for such a small state!

Next, we headed down to New Jersey. This was also a lot of fun. When we first arrived we met up with another uncle and had yummy Thai food. After that, we headed to the shore area and I met a ton of Steve's extended family. Kathi was nervous that I was overwhelmed by the amount of family that was there... However, Kathi has never been to a Vuyk family Reunion or a Neeleman Christmas. :) We have them beat by quite a few! In New Jersey I was able to meet up with my friend from law school and meet her adorable little daughter. We ate at a diner, had yummy ice cream and caught up. We also went to the shore, saw the board walk at night, ate ice cream on waffles, crossed the Delaware river and had a history lesson at the Washington crossing sight in Penn, learned about treasure hunting off of Key West, and got a few mosquito bites!

After New Jersey, Steve and I headed out for New York City. We were able to spend a wonderful day together taking in the sites and hanging out. We started the day off with a bus ride in from New Jersey, stopped at a three story McDonalds, went to the today show (HOORAY!), saw "the Plaza," St. Patrick's cathedral, went to ground zero, and battery park to see the statue of liberty. We then headed (by foot) to Wall Street and off to lunch at South SeaPort. Tired feet enticed us to hop on the subway. We got on the wrong way and headed to Brooklyn before we realized and then headed the other way to Central Park. We walked around Central Park, ate Popsicles to cool ourselves from the 94 degree weather and intense humidity. We went to Time Square, the M&M store, Dean and Deluca, and then waited at the restaurant for the rest of the group to join us for dinner and a Broadway show! We saw Jersey Boys (which I loved!), saw Time Square at night, walked to the Ferry, Ferried across the Hudson, saw New York at night from the boat, and headed back to the home where we were staying. Now, that is a lot of stuff and you should be impressed that we did it all in ONE day! Steve and I were impressed with ourselves and had a wonderful time!

Everyone at home helped with my work so returning was not as stressful as I had imagined it would be. I was busy today, but nothing like I would have been without all my family helping out. Thank you Jen, Em, Ben and Dad for that. Thank you Bob and Kathi for the awesome trip and the wonderful experiences. Thank you Steve for going with me to the Today Show and being excited to see Matt Lauer.

I will post pictures soon. Most of them are self portraits of Steve and I in New York. :)

I love New York - Ray and I visited there once and had such a great time. It was before 9/11 and we stayed in the Millenium Hilton which is right across the street from where the twin towers used to stand. A year later when the towers were hit we were so sad...it made such a huge difference to have been there and actually experienced that area and interacted with the people. We worried about the little men in the park playing chess, and the huge amount of people that work and play there everyday. I am so glad that you had a wonderful time. Thanks for sharing your adventure.
Love you tons,
Aunt Cathy
