Steve and I installed a clothes line in our back yard. Steve bought the retractable line at Home Depot, we discussed it, installed it, and hung it up. We promptly went in to get the wet laundry, hung it on the line, prayed it wouldn't blow away - NO, we did not have clothes pins just lying around, and then realized this one little line was probably not going to be big enough for all the laundry we had. We were so excited about it, that we left the clothes out to dry until we were able to find a bigger line to replace it. About 2 hours later, we went outside to get the driedinthegreatoutdoorswindblownfreshsmelling ... crunchy towells. Yes, it is true. They didn't have that yummy bounce scent or that fresh from the dryer softness. They were slightly crunchy and a little disappointing. We are still going to get the bigger line and continue using it during the summer, but I do have to say it seemed so much more glamorous in my mind and in the perfect world of television.

I still love the smell of fresh washed sheets that have hung on the line outside - it is such a comforting scent. I have to agree that most of the other clothes that are dried outside are a little stiff - but when I was small that was the only way to dry clothes and we survived! Good for you going so green!
HELLLO!! Ever heard of Downey?? Yo.
Put it in the washer and does help to keep the laundry from becoming crunchy on the line. AND you still get a nice scent.
I dried all my clothes in St. George outside and it worked for me.
