Wow. I feel like a bad mom. Here it is... Jan 15th and I haven't even posted about Evan's little 2 year old birthday! Although it is out of order and I have a lot to post about, I will start with his birthday. The day started off amazing. When Evan woke up, I went into his room and said, "Good morning, Buddy! It's your birthday!" He immediately jumped up, started jumping on the bed and proclaimed, "Hooray!" He proclaimed "Hooray!" about 50 more times throughout the day. He said, "Hooray!" when I let him eat a mini cupcake BEFORE we left for his party at Kiki and Grandpa's house and then again when I let him eat TWO more mini cupcakes after dinner. He shouted, "Hooray!" when we told him it was time to open presents and over and over again when he opened up his spin toy from Grandpa and Kiki, his mini Mater from Jen, and his pirate ship from Ben and Kelsey. He was really excited when Kiki got out the new year's eve party favors including popper things and blow horns. He chased Rob around with a slobbery wet blow horn and I am sure was convinced all the excitement was still because it was his birthday. (We celebrated the new year around 9 because of the little kids and because most of us adults didn't know if we would make it to midnight anyway.) He seemed to have a wonderful birthday and was SO tired by the time we got home. He fell asleep in the car and actually stayed asleep as I carried him into the house. In his entire 2 years of life, I think this has happened once, okay, maybe twice.
Here he is with the Broom he got for his birthday. (the coloring of the picture is bad, but I couldn't get him to hold still with the broom long enough to adjust the color). He LOVED the broom and is always so excited when he spills something so he can clean it up!
I love his sly little look -- Holding on to the cupcake in fear I might take it away or something.
He figured out the sit and spin pretty easily.
I have to say, 2 is my favorite age so far! He is starting to talk so much! He says things like, "Horrible" and "Evan here!" and it makes me laugh my head off. His little mind is always going and he is SO smart. I know, biased mom... blah, blah, but if he wasn't a border-line genius then he wouldn't say things like he did today. He was sitting in his little chair (yes, it is a child size version of a normal chair... Jen says I love things miniature and she is totally right. I would make an entire room of miniature things if I could.) Anyway, he was sitting in his little chair with his feet up on his drum. He said, "Mommy, what time it?" Steve and I looked at each other confused. "It is time to play!" I replied. He repeated his question. "It is time to sit and play music!" I tried again. Again, he repeated his question, but this time he turned to Steve. "What time it?" Steve said, "It is 12:48." Evan then said, "Oh." Again, I laughed my head off! He was really asking what time it was! AND then pretended to understand what it meant to be 12:48! He is seriously the best thing that has happened to Steve's and my life. He makes things fun, stressful, chaotic, simple, lovely, and hard all at the same time and I wouldn't trade a moment of the past 2 years. (Well, I might trade the temper tantrums if I could... bring on the terrible two's, I guess!) :) Happy birthday little friend. I love you!

I love how you love Evan and love being his MOM! And, there is no doubt in my mind...he's a little genius!
How on earth can he possibly be 2 already? He such a handsome little man! Happy Birthday Evan!
I'm sad that we don't get to see this little guy more often. Hooray for a 2 year birthday party! Hooray that he had such a great time. Hooray that his mom loves him so much! Happy Birthday little Evan!

Aunt Cathy
