We are flying home to Utah on Friday in order to celebrate Christmas with my mom and sister. We didn't get to see them over the holidays and found an outstanding deal on Southwest that couldn't be passed by. We will all be flying out together- Jen, Greg, Owen, Ben, Kelsey, Steve and Me. We decided this year, because we would be coming only two short weeks after Christmas, we would wait on our present exchange with the Farnsworths and with Em and her kids. I have to say, it made Chirstmas shopping seem so much easier this year. With 7 less presents to buy in December, it didn't seem so overwhelming. However... just because we didn't have to buy the presents in December, doesn't mean that we didn't have to buy them at all.
Here we are, with only one full day left until we travel home, and I find myself asking the SAME EXACT QUESTION I ask myself every year. "What in the world should I get Eric?" Seriously, you can only buy someone so many Home Depot and Sears gift certificates before you die. Sorry Eric, but you are really hard to buy for. Greg = easy. Iowa, Cubs, or sports. Yes, it can get monotonous, but Steve swears that you really can't have too many Iowa things. Jen = not easy, but manageable. I always find something (even if we do end up giving ourselves a budget in order to ease the pressure.) Em = easy. She seems to like everything or is at least really good at pretending. Ben = easy. He will usually just tell me exactly what he wants starting around, say, October! Owen = easy. Today he came to visit me at court and quietly whispered, "thanks for all my presents." That made me want to buy him even more. Max and Ryan = easy. Think wii games, action figures, cars, puzzles, etc. Alysa = easy. It is so much fun to buy for a little girl. That leaves Eric. So hard.
I have one more shopping day left. I have to pick up something small for Em. (not going to be a problem- I have the main gift already, but need a supplemental gift to add to the present). That leaves Eric. We have an idea, but let me tell you, this is not without many sleepless nights trying to figure out what may have the practicality of a Home Depot gift card, the excitement of a Sears tool purchase, and not fall into the category of "oh, um, thanks." What a stressful process!
